The number of cryptocurrency hacks has been declining significantly since the beginning of the year.
According to the latest research from BestBrokers, the industry saw 64 security breaches by mid-June – a sharp drop from 251 hacks last year.
However, while the number of successful hacks is declining, the damage they have done to the industry has certainly not happened.
The data shows that the average amount of theft per crypto hack has increased by 206% compared to the 2021 average.
Researchers believe that hackers are targeting and successfully hitting big targets in 2022.
About 72% of all cryptocurrencies stolen in 2021 were due to Defy protocols and services. This year, the percentage has risen to a surprising 97%.
The competitive nature of the market means that the protocol that is first launched has the highest chance of success.
